Clean Campus Safe Campus

Recent surveys and available literature show that substance use is increasing among children and adolescents. The problem is seen across all socioeconomic groups, from metropolitan cities to small towns and rural areas, with newer substances and multiple substance use also being documented. The fact that substances like tobacco, drugs and alcohol are considered to be the gateway for youngsters to tread on to more heinous crimes, calls for a collaborative and concerted effort to tackle all factors that can expose our children to such inappropriate activities. Since children spend most of their time in the formative years in schools and other educational institutions, it is highly imperative that they are provided with the safest and cleanest campuses.

Concerned at this, the Kerala Government is launching a widespread campaign aimed at arresting the rising prevalence of substance abuse and other inappropriate social behaviour among students named 'Clean Campus, Safe Campus', the Home, Education & Health Departments have come together to give shape and implement this long-term campaign that will target students up to standard 12 in the first phase.

For the effective implementation, School and District Level committees are formed in Kozhikode City District.

The activities carried out in Kozhikode CIty District

• With the co-operation of School Protection groups, Student Police Cadets, and Shadow Police Kozhikode City Police collected the details of the persons who are involved in NDPS crimes and make arrangements to watch them thoroughly.
• Joint raids were conducted in the school/college premises with the co-operation of Excise Department.
• Arrangements made to watch the migrant labourers and the vehicles coming in from other state.
• A short film named &ldquoORU NERKAZHCHA&rdquo has produced to make awareness to the society about the drug abuse and the bad effects of the Narcotic drugs.
• Conducted an anti-narcotic poster competition with the co-operation of the Education department for the school, College students and also conduct an anti-narcotic posters exhibition at Mananchira.
• Anti-narcotics awareness vinyl boards fixed at 33 High School/Higher Secondary Schools and Colleges in Kozhikode City limit.
• Anti-narcotic awareness classes were conducted with the help of Superintendant of Narcotic Control Bureau of India in the schools in Kozhikode City limits.
• In connection with the Inter-national Drug Abuse Day-2016 (June-26), Narcotic Cell conducted &ldquo Nallaoru Vakyam&rdquo programme for the school students.
